“Preservation” and hopes for history

This news article is the first media report that I have seen using the word "preservation" by those seeking to keep the status quo regarding Confederate Memorials. I hope its use does not negatively impact the work of those who have been quietly laboring for years to preserve the stories of our past. A pond and an access road. Is this an idea worth pursuing?

The Stoutsenberger Farmstead is over 220 years old. Even under good conditions that would make it a challenge to keep it up.
